About the Course
By the end of the programme, you will be able to:
- Assess your own skills, knowledge, and behaviours as a coach or mentor.
- Manage the coaching or mentoring process within an organisational context.
- Understand how the organisational context affects coaching or mentoring.
- Plan, deliver, and review your own coaching or mentoring sessions.
- Plan your future development in coaching or mentoring.
- Core Concepts: Understand the differences between coaching and mentoring, and the principles and conditions for effective coaching.
- Skills Development: Enhance your communication skills, learn goal-focused coaching models, and practice presence and listening skills. Develop techniques such as Socratic questioning and providing constructive feedback.
- Process Management: Master the management of coaching and mentoring processes, including contracting, planning sessions, and reflective practice.
- Advanced Techniques: Explore positive psychology, strengths-based coaching, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural coaching, and the application of neuroscience in coaching.
- Organisational Context: Create a coaching culture, build trust, understand values and motivation, and measure the impact of coaching.
- Personal Development: Develop strategies for resilience, manage yourself as a coach, and create a personal development plan and coaching profile
The ILM Level 5 is designed for those with workplace coaching responsibilities or looking to integrate it into their management role, focusing on practical coaching skills and understanding the organisational context. Coachees will be of mid-level management or below.
Our learning model comprises 7 live virtual classroom workshops over 7 months with self-guided learning between sessions. Your progress will be assessed through a written assignment, a Portfolio of Evidence demonstrating a 18 hours of coaching practice (2 or 3 coachees), and a Reflective Journal.
By booking your place, your commitment is to:
- Attend and actively engage in all seven taught sessions, run synchronously with a facilitator in our MS Teams classroom space
- Submit a video recording of a coaching session for written feedback
- Participate in 1 hour of coaching supervision
- Participate in peer coaching triad groups
- Supplement attendance with additional reading, research and work towards your assignment submission
- Access to our virtual learning platform and comprehensive course materials will be given
There is no formal application process, but we do need to ensure all learners are aware of the substantial commitment to the programme and that you are enrolling on the most suitable level of qualification.
The total commitment is one year, which includes assignment submission deadlines.
